The shortest season

College basketball is getting squeezed out and I for one don't like it.

Back in day -- OK, back in the 1970s and 1980s -- college basketball was a big deal from the day the bowl games ended until the NCAA championship.

Now the bowl games are creeping toward mid-January. The NFL playoffs have pushed the Super Bowl into February. And suddenly, you're looking at a three or four week season when people care.

The NCAA has only itself to blame for part of this. By not being able to control college football, college basketball is getting diminished.

College basketball may have a better postseason than college football. But the college basketball season is being diminished each year it seems.
