Smack at you!
Some Louisiana Tech fans who thrive on internet smack talk without using their names seem to think that Tech Athletic Director Jim Oakes is on his way out.
One of the reasons they cite is Oakes lack of visibility at Derek Dooley's hiring party. Malcolm Butler spoke, President Dan Reneau spoke, then Dooley spoke and talked about sitting across the table during negotiations with Reneau. Meanwhile, Oakes remained as incognito as an athletic director can remain.
Fact one: Reneau asked Oakes to speak and he chose to let others shine.
Fact two: Oakes does not seek out, nor does he prefer to be in the media limelight.
Fact three: Oakes was not only in Miami interviewing Dooley, he set the whole thing up.
Fact four: Jim Oakes isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
And you can take those items to the bank.

Well, that's unfortunate.
By the way Jimmy, we don't hide behind our names. There's this handy little feature called a "profile" (shocking) that you can actually CLICK ON (what?!) and get more personal information about us than you probably want to know. Our names are there. Mine certainly is. I'm listed. Call me.
Did you know Art Kaufman is in line for the Tech coaching gig? Seriously! Scott told me so!
I find it funny that you come up with an article being critical of "fans who thrive on internet smack talk without using their names". The person who pointed out that Oakes was suspiciously absent during this whole process his login name is "Dwayne from Minden" that doesn't sound very anonymous to me. Anyone with an IQ above 10 should be able to deduce that at least his first name is Dwayne and he is from Minden. And if you click on his login name you will see his full name, hometown, etc, etc, etc. Not only that but 90% of the people you are criticizing have their personal information easily accessible for anyone smart enough to figure out how to click on their login name. And by the way my name is.

At the time Scott wrote that article, many who claimed they were Tech fans - as shown on comments posted to shreveporttimes.com articles on the Tech coaching search and other sources -- were throwing out names like Will Muschamp and Mike Shula. At least Scott was being more realistic. Yes he was wrong, but then so were many others. Anyway, it was a list of potential names, not a confirmed roster of interviewees.
I'm sure, being the humble person you are, that you're never wrong, Mr. Chandler. But unfortunately people make mistakes. If Scott had named Muschamp and Shula in the story he would have caught hell for that too.
BTW, I hope coach Dooley will do a good job and get Tech back on track soon. Tech is an outstanding university with rabid fans (even some who take blogs -- not "articles," Mr. Coleman -- a little too personally) and deserves better than it's had in recent years. With young talented players such as Dennis Morris and William Griffin -- and the help of the Tech administration and fans -- it's very doable.
That said, I've already bought the rights to FireDerekDooley.com so in four years you'll know whom to contact.
